Group Discussion & Personal Interviews

 GE/PI Round

Team Interface

People who qualify will be notified and called for the GE/PI process on campus. You can be asked to do a variety of tasks in the GE. There will usually be some material provided in the room like chart paper, news paper, sketch pens, a pair of scissors, glue, etc. Some of the past activities have been,

    ·         “You have been on campus all morning. Make a model of MICA using the materials provided” (creativity, vision, etc. will be tested)
    ·         “What will Gandhiji say to the world in 2012? Make 6 posters showing the same” (thought process, art skills, coordination, creativity will be tested)
    ·         “There are a variety of newspapers dated 7th April. Make your own newspaper for 7th April using articles from the newspapers provided to you” (selection of articles, layout of newspaper, etc. will be tested), etc.

Do not try to dominate anyone. Aggression is not appreciated. Make sure you are aware of the time allotted since you will not be allowed even a minute more than what you have been told in the beginning.

For the PI round, be sure of yourself. These are the things you should definitely know

    ·         The four specializations at MICA and what exactly they mean.
    ·         Which of the four you might want to do and why.
    ·         Your favourite marketing campaign and why it is your favourite
    ·         Why do you want to come to MICA

These are VERY BASIC questions. If you are not able to answer any of these or seem hesitant or unsure, your chances do not look good. Pay close attention to each and every one of them, especially the last one. They are looking for people who are sure that they want to get into the media/marketing field. Your psychometric scores will be taken into account at this stage. Also know prominent brand ambassadors of major brands – Thums Up, Sunsilk, Adidas, etc. Also know tag lines of these major brands.

You will be asked to fill in a form before you come for the GE/PI round that might have a mini SOP, a few essay type questions, questions about work ex (if you have any), achievements, etc. Fill the form carefully since almost all the questions you will be asked will be from the form itself. Also, have a solid answer for the question “Tell me about yourself”. Try not to say the things that have already been mentioned in the form except your name and the name of your college. This will help you to direct the interview in the direction you are most comfortable in.

You can be asked questions on media and marketing issues like ethics, boon or bane, is it wise to target children in marketing campaigns, saturation of ads on TV, trial by media, etc. Research about prominent issues like these and think about your answer while providing rational justification for it. The panellists may not agree with what you say, but they will be looking for a WELL THOUGHT OUT OPINION and not an opinion that matches theirs.

I cannot iterate enough – Pay attention to the 4 questions mentioned above. If you have any questions about the specializations, courses, course structure, please feel free to ask.

Also remember, it is VERY difficult to predict how an interview will proceed. You might not be asked any of the above questions (though that is unlikely). It’s like a cricket match. The best you can do is come prepared and feeling confident.
